50 Million Reasons I Am Voting the Way I Am

Four years ago I did not vote for president.  You see, I liked President Obama’s views better on almost everything.  But I couldn’t get past the few things I disagreed with him on enough to actually vote for him.

This year is about the same.  I probably agree with Obama on more of the issues.  I don’t feel like I really know where Romney stands on a lot of things.  He seems to keep changing his stances and just saying what people want to hear.  His math doesn’t seem to add up and he does not provide any specifics about anything.  But when I vote, not everything carries the same weight.  There are a few things that I know where Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan stand, and on those things I weigh them heavily.

The first area is this.  Romney has a faith in God and he is not afraid to say that and stand up for his beliefs.  In the two debates I have watched, Romney has mentioned his faith in God both times. He stands up for his beliefs of traditional marriage. However, Obama has not mentioned God at all.  He did say he said a prayer with a woman, but didn’t say to whom.  I can only assume that saying to whom he prayed might offend some people. That seems to be how he has been in his presidency toward faith issues.  The fact that Romney does not dodge or hide his faith in God says something to me.  It speaks higher than all the other items.  So that is the first reason.

The second area is this. From 1973 through 2008, nearly 50 million legal abortions have occurred in the U.S.  Children who did not yet have a voice had their lives ended without any chance.  According to census data from 2000 to 2007, there was over 1.2 million abortions every year.  That is over 3,288 abortions per day on average.  That is more abortions every day than the number of people who died in the 9/11 attacks. The candidate’s, who both want good for our country, have oftentimes small differences on taxes, war, economy, energy, jobs, you name it, that seem to pale in comparison to over 1 million lives lost every year.  And on this issue, I know where Romney and Ryan stand. And if there is even a remote chance that this law could change because of who was President and gets to appoint the Supreme Court, then I want to cast my vote for the person who would stand up for those who don’t yet have voices. From my reading of the Bible, those cast aside and who need help seem to be the people who need to be stood up for.  And it is not just the babies that suffer and need to be stood up for.  Though I don’t hear it talked about often, I can only imagine what women go through after having made this choice. It would be taking a stand for these women as well who might not realize the dramatic effect one decision could have on their lives.

Would this make women have to deal with the results of the choices they have made? Sure.  Would this mean that there would be more struggling people that Christians would need to show the love of Christ to?  Probably so. Would this mean women would no longer have a choice? They would still have a choice. It’s just that it would be a choice about whether they are willing to deal with the results of their actions. That is my take on it and the 50 millions reasons my vote will be for Romney.
