Happy Father's Day

This Father's Day post is a day early since we will be traveling tomorrow.

Many people are blessed right now to have their biological father in their lives. I was blessed to have my father, David, in my life for 17 years. During those years he was my example and taught me so many things. Especially about how to love God, love your family, and love your wife. What a gift to have a dad who loved my mom so much. He also taught me about discipline and hard work, how to laugh and how to play. I will always have fond memories of and lessons from my dad. Similarly, my wife Kasey lost her father at an early age. The loss of our fathers was one of the first things that drew Kasey and I together.

But there are two other men now in my family who we now call father who we are also blessed to have in our lives. These two men, Rector and Gary, though they already had children of their own, fell in love with my mom and Kasey's mom and became fathers to the both of us. After a few years after my dad passed away, I prayed that God would send a loving, Christian man into my mom's life so that she would not be alone, who would love her as Christ loved the church just as my dad had. And God answered that prayer when Rector came into her life. I thank God for the joy, love, and leadership that he brought to her. Similarly, Kasey's mom lost her husband and Kasey was left without a father in her life. But I am so glad that Gary came into her life, a loving, Christian man who provided love, joy, and leadership for her family. Both of us feel so blessed that our mom's have that special person in their lives to share the rest of their lives with. To share in the good times and bad, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer. And as memories sometimes fade of our dad's love, we have a living example of how to love your wife and family. Thank you Rector and Gary for loving our moms. What a blessing!!

And thank you for being a father to us when we had lost our own. Thank you for loving us just like your own. For being there for us for anything that we need. For being a listening ear and source of wisdom and advice. For providing Godly leadership for our families. For showing us an example of lifelong growth through the reading of God's word. For being like our heavenly Father and adopting us to be your own. We thank you for coming in and taking over a role that every person needs. You have filled an empty space in our lives. Elly and Lily are so lucky to have a special Grandad and Grandpa that they would not otherwise have had. You have brought joy into our lives and are answers to prayer. We are so grateful to have someone to tell, Happy Father's Day. So...Happy Father's Day.
