Life and a Radical Commitment

It has been a while since I have written, so I thought I would just write an update on life. Elly is now almost two and is such a joy. She just talks and sings songs non-stop all day long. Her laugh and smile is precious. She is really into "running fast" lately as well, which I think she is picking up from the boys at church. Lily is now 5 months old and is growing so big. At the rate she is growing, she will catch Elly by the time she is a year old. She is now into rolling and looks like she will be crawling in no time. It is interesting how different her and Elly's personalities are even at such an early age. Lily seems like she is going to have a more shy, quiet personality like her dad, while Elly is more outgoing and loud.

As for Kasey and I, it is hard to know where to start. I will just say that God is good. God has been taking us on a journey that only time will tell where it leads. We have been learning that though we have both grown up in Christian homes, in a lot of ways we have missed the point. In many ways, our lives have looked no different from the culture around us. Though this is prevalent in American Christians, we are trying to start living differently. We recently read the book Radical: Taking Back your Faith from the American Dream, by David Platt, which has made a big impact on us. Mainly because it sheds light on the global mission of spreading the gospel and how often the church in America is just focused on ourselves and how our lives are often not much different from the culture.

At the end of the book, it provides a one year challenge which we are participating in and would appreciate your prayers that this would be a life-changing year for us which I believe it already has been and it has only begun. One of the things that we are doing is sacrificing every possible dollar in order to to spend it on specific, urgent spiritual and physical need in the world. For us, this means not spending money on things we would normally spend money on such as eating out, eating desserts, entertainment, etc. Also, we hope to go on a mission trip to another country at the end of the one year so please be praying about where we will go and that the Lord will use us to spread his glory.

Also, I thought I would mention this because I would not want this to ever come as a surprise to anyone. But Kasey and I have discussed eventually moving our family to another country for a year or so in order to spend time in another culture. And we could even see ourselves becoming missionaries for longer than that if that is where we are lead by God. Of course, this is very new discussion for us, but we have finally reached the point to where we will follow God no matter where that takes us. So please be in prayer for our family as we seek to be lead by the Spirit. We are trying to be all about spreading the Love.
